Our Library for All Ages

As a child, my library was my safe space, my doorway to imagination, and my free ticket to exploring other cultures, communities and worlds. When I was finally big enough to get my very own library card, I was so proud to hand it over to the librarian to check out the books that I had so carefully chosen and couldn’t wait to devour. Even as a very little girl, I loved walking into that big building, where I could listen to stories with other children, learn crafts or get lost in a book in a quiet corner. Decades later, I still feel the same way.

Our Library has grown so much since those days, and it is far more than just “books in stacks.” Twenty-seven branches are spread across Pima County, covering the third largest area of any library system in the nation! Our devoted library staffers have developed a wide range of innovative programs to meet the needs of our very diverse community, including:

  • After-school snacks for hungry kids and engaging educational programs for kids who are hungry to learn.

  • Job skills training and resume preparation assistance for job seekers, and business support and workforce development programs for employers.

  • Health checks and legal services, language classes, US Citizenship classes and GED prep.

  • Craft and hobby classes for every age group and every interest.

  • Homework help, so that students who need and want a little extra support get what they need to succeed.

  • And the beloved “Read to a Dog” that provides a non-judgmental furry listener to give encouragement to young readers.

This just scratches the surface of the programming offered by the Pima County Public Library.

Every single program at our Library is offered free of charge, eliminating cost as a barrier to participation. Through efforts like the BookMobile, Books by Mail, and rotating satellite collections at many other locations, distance is not a barrier either, even across the vast expanse of Pima County.

Our library depends on the support of friends like you to continue to provide these exciting, inspiring and engaging programs and services.  With your help, through your gift to the Pima Library Foundation, these programs, and so many more, will grow and thrive!
